Amber Ox Public House is a lovely culinary brewhouse right in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg. The atmosphere is dark with bourbon tones, the wait staff is accommodating and friendly, and the food is absolutely to die for. We went to amber ox for a special occasion for our wonderful Mary Blinn’s 17th Birthday treat and their expert food options certainly were the icing on the cake. The crowd was small as it was a Sunday during church hours but the few individuals we encountered were all close to middle ages of family units.
Mary Blinn was delighted with her huge cinnamon roll (large enough to share with our table of 4) and her beet Panzanella, Taylor got the extremely filling chicken and waffle dish, Anna loved her scrumptious french toast, and I had my classic avocado french toast topped with everything bagel seasoning pickled relish and a side of scrambled eggs. The toast was so good I almost didn't have to douse it in lemon juice but alas, old habits die hard. The French toast Anna ordered was served with caramelized nuts and goat's cheese, doused in sweet maple syrup and it was extravagant.
Our special guest Taylor requested ice coffee and at hearing the news of only normal coffee availability got crafty. She got a cup of ice and had a unique DIY experience with her coffee. Amber Ox is elegant and sophisticated, directly connected to the bustling atmosphere of their sister company Precarious Beer Project. Reservations are highly suggested even just for brunch hours. The bill for the quality of the food was not so heinous as to make note of which we were a bit nervous about going in with only experiencing their dinner prices. All in all a wonderful place for a special Sunday brunch treat.
